Miles Davis (26 May 1926 - 28 September 1991) was the most important and influential figure in the history of modern jazz. His nearly fifty-year career spanned the entire jazz history of the second half of the twentieth century and was characterized by constant evolution and the search for new artistic goals. With equal passion, Davis contributed to bebop, cool and modal jazz, and later to the development of hardbop and the fusion of jazz and rock & roll. The sound of his trumpet - fully recognizable through the use of Harmon's mute - gave him a personal and intimate feel, a soft and melodic sound.
