Classical Composer and Violinist from the Czech Republic

Václav Pichl (1741–1805) was a prominent Czech classical composer, violinist, and conductor who became an important figure in the musical life of Vienna and other European cities during the late 18th century. Born in Bohemia, Pichl initially studied theology but soon devoted himself to music. He served as a violinist in various orchestras before becoming the Kapellmeister to the Archbishop of Olomouc. In 1777, he was appointed as the music director for the court of the Austrian Habsburg nobleman Count Ludwig Hartig.
