Cowboys from Hell is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera , released on July 24, 1990 by Atco Records. It is the band's first album to feature vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown. After producer Terry Date signed with Atco Records, the band began work on their fifth studio album. The album's title track was written about guitarist Dimebag Darrell's rough upbringing in Arlington, Texas. The album's lyrics are based on horror stories, myths and legends. The album Cowboys from Hell met with critical and commercial success, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard 200 and number 54 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipping one million copies in the United States. In 1992, it was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. The album spawned four singles, "Cowboys from Hell", "Psycho Holiday", "Heaven's on Fire" and "This Love".
