I could imagine Cannonball's bluesy alto sax against Trane's harmonic, chordal playing, his looser way of improvising, which created a whole new feel, a new sound." Line-up: trumpet: Miles Davis tenorsax: John Coltrane alto sax: Cannonball Adderley piano: Red Garland double bass: Paul Chambers drums: Philly Joe Jones "Milestones" is the only recording of the original MILES DAVIS sextet with JOHN COLTRANE, Paul Chambers, Cannonball Adderly, Philly Joe Jones and Red Garland. This 1958 masterpiece captures early jazz experiments such as "Straight, No Chaser" and the title track. Both the song and the album became true jazz milestones, as the title states, that significantly influenced jazz with a worldwide reach.
