A new album of soul-jazz star Gregory Porter's best "featuring and remixes" featuring contributions from David Murray, the Zbonics and Gil Scott-Heron's bandmate Brian Jackson, among others, including four previously unreleased tracks. Gregory Porter is a man of superlatives. The Grammy and Echo Jazz winner, who won a gold record this year for his third album "Liquid Spirit," has "the most beautiful voice in jazz" (Spiegel), stands "in the finest soul-jazz tradition" (Focus) and is "in demand like no one else in jazz" (Playboy). His colleague Dee Dee Bridgewater enthuses, "We haven't had a singer like that in a long time." Moreover, the 33-year-old former footballer with "a voice like a barrel" (Der Westen) may be one of the most active musicians of our time. "Issues Of Life" collects some of the finest "featuring and remixes" of this "soul poet" (Downbeat) while showing his immense versatility. The mood is set by the opening track, a previously unreleased arrangement of Bobby Timmons' classic "Moanin'". Gregory Porter brings this hardbop hit into the present with "Paul Zauner's Blue Brass." Be My Monster Love" is also featured here exclusively: the title track of legendary saxophonist David Murray's current album is sung by Porter's colleague Macy Gray in a previously released version. Our title track, "Issues Of Life", is a beautiful piece of autobiographical soul recorded with the all-star band Zbonics. (Some will recognize the prototype of "Free", which is on the "Liquid Spirit" album). The album also features two remixes that will fill the dance floor: Opolopo's remix of Porter's biggest hit, "1960 What?" was previously only available digitally and on vinyl, and the "Automart Remix" of the Zbonics hit "She Danced Across The Floor" was created exclusively for this album.
