Replacement counterweight for Pro-Ject turntables with 9" and 10" CC EVO arm weighing 83 g
Counterweight number 46 (1940875046) for RPM 5, RPM 9 Carbon, RPM 10 Carbon, RPM 9.2, 2-Xperience DC, 6 Perspex SB and Xtension 9 and 10 turntables (see configurator below).
Counterweight weight 83 g.
The weights are filled with Sorbotan® on the back side for increased vibration resistance and better damping.
The purpose of the counterweight is to set the optimum contact force for your turntable. The precisely adjusted downforce guarantees the best possible groove tracking and perfect reading of the recorded information. Correctly adjusted vertical contact force on the stylus (VTF) is a prerequisite for the best listening experience on your turntable.
Finding the most suitable counterweight depends on the type of turntable, the type of arm and the weight of the fitted cartridge.
CONFIGURATOR
Before placing an order, we recommend that you check in the turntable and cartridge database on the configurator that the selected counterweight matches your turntable and cartridge configuration.
In cases where you do not find a suitable counterweight for your turntable in the configurator, you can try searching for a suitable type in the detailed configuration table which you can find in the download section for each counterweight model.
THE PROCEDURE FOR SETTING THE PRELOAD (VTF)
The correct pressure range is individual for each transmission and the recommended values for your transmission can be found in the transmission's user manual. The most typical pressure values for current transmissions range from 1.3 to 2 grams (it used to be much more). Sometimes the pressure values may be quoted in units of mN (milinewton). The conversion is simple 1 g = 10 mN. The pressure is adjusted by means of a pivoting counterweight installed at the end of the arm.
By rotating the counterweight, first try to reach a position where the arm remains in equilibrium (floating) and the tip floats freely a few millimeters on the LP plate surface. If the arm is gently deflected up or down, the arm will spontaneously return to its original position.Next, hold the metal part of the counterweight in the set position to prevent it from rotating anymore, and on the pivoting set the value 0 (zero) with the other hand on the pivoting scale - the default position - by aligning zero with the adjustment mark on the arm tube. Then, by rotating the whole counterweight and the scale, the desired pressure values can be set.
Alternatively, it is possible to use additional aids such as mechanical (usually included in theor digital scales (must be purchased) specifically designed for measuring the pressure of the turntables. The adjustment is of course most accurate when using a digital scale, e.g. Pro-Ject
MEASURE IT E or
MEASURE IT S2 (accurate to 3 decimal places).
