All-Female Country Supergroup

The Highwomen is an American country music supergroup formed in 2019, comprising Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires. The group was created as a female-driven response to the Highwaymen, a male supergroup from the 1980s consisting of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson. The Highwomen's self-titled debut album was released on September 6, 2019, to critical acclaim. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and received praise for its powerful storytelling and harmonies that highlight the members' individual strengths while creating a cohesive collective sound. The project aimed to amplify women's voices in country music and address the genre's gender disparity. The album includes songs that tackle subjects ranging from motherhood to representation and was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb.
