The Funkees were a prominent Nigerian rock band that emerged in the 1970s during a period of great musical innovation and cross-cultural exchange in West Africa. They played a style of music known as Afro-rock, which blended traditional Nigerian music with rock and funk influences from the West. The band was formed during the Biafran War and gained popularity after the conflict ended, becoming one of the leading groups in the East Nigerian music scene.
