British new wave duo

The Buggles were an English new wave band formed in London in 1977, consisting of Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes. They are best known for their debut single "Video Killed the Radio Star," which was released in 1979 and became a huge commercial success. It holds the distinction of being the first music video ever played on MTV when the network debuted on August 1, 1981. The song was a part of their first album, "The Age of Plastic," which received critical acclaim for its futuristic sound and production techniques. After the success of their initial album, The Buggles' influence waned, but both Horn and Downes went on to have successful careers in music production and as members of other bands. Trevor Horn became a prolific producer, working with artists such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Seal, while Geoff Downes joined the progressive rock band Yes and later formed the supergroup Asia.
