Rising Sons

Emerging Folk-Rock Group

Rising Sons was a short-lived American blues and folk band founded in 1964, known for its significant members Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder, who would both go on to have successful solo careers. The group combined blues, folk, and rock elements, and was one of the early bands to be part of the American roots music revival. Despite their potential and the later fame of their members, Rising Sons disbanded in 1966 without releasing an album during their active years. However, their recorded work was posthumously released in 1992 under the title "Rising Sons Featuring Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder," which showcased the talents of these artists at an early stage in their careers. The band's blend of musical styles and the individual skills of its members have since been recognized as influential in the development of blues and roots music.
