Fountains Of Wayne

Fountains Of Wayne

Power Pop Band Behind Hit Stacys Mom

Fountains of Wayne was an American rock band formed in 1995 by Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood. Named after a lawn ornament store in Wayne, New Jersey, the band is best known for their power pop melodies and witty, often sardonic lyrics. They gained mainstream popularity with their 2003 hit single "Stacy's Mom" from the album "Welcome Interstate Managers," which became a major pop culture reference and earned them a Grammy nomination. The band's lineup also included Jody Porter on guitar and Brian Young on drums. Over the years, Fountains of Wayne released five studio albums, with their music characterized by a blend of humor and pathos, often exploring themes of suburban life and romantic disappointment. Despite never replicating the commercial success of "Stacy's Mom," they maintained a loyal fan base and were respected for their craftsmanship within the power pop genre. The band's career was marked by critical acclaim but fluctuating commercial fortunes. Sadly, co-founder Adam Schlesinger passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19, which led to tributes from across the music industry for his contributions as a songwriter and musician.
