CBGB is not an artist, composer, or band, but rather a famous club in New York City that played a pivotal role in the history of punk and new wave music. CBGB, which stands for Country, BlueGrass, and Blues, was founded by Hilly Kristal in 1973. Despite its name, the club became a breeding ground for punk rock and new wave bands. Iconic groups such as The Ramones, Talking Heads, Patti Smith Group, Blondie, and Television were among the many acts that got their start at CBGB during the 1970s and early 1980s.
