The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) is a professional orchestra based in Buffalo, New York. It was founded in 1935 and has since become one of the most respected ensembles in the United States. The BPO performs at Kleinhans Music Hall, which is renowned for its acoustics and is considered one of the finest concert halls in the United States. Over the years, the orchestra has been led by a series of distinguished conductors, including William Steinberg, Michael Tilson Thomas, Semyon Bychkov, and JoAnn Falletta, who became the first female conductor to lead a major American ensemble when she was appointed as Music Director in 1999.
