American black metal band

Absu was an American extreme metal band, primarily playing music that could be categorized as black metal and thrash metal with mythological occult themes. The band was formed in 1989 in Plano, Texas, by drummer and vocalist Proscriptor McGovern (Russley Randel Givens). Over the years, Absu's lineup saw several changes, with Proscriptor being the only constant member. The band's lyrical content drew heavily on various mythologies, particularly Sumerian myths, which set them apart in the black metal scene.
