He is considered one of the most prominent baritones of the 20th century, with a career that spanned from the late 1930s to the early 1970s. Gobbi was renowned for his powerful voice, dramatic artistry, and his ability to bring complex characters to life on the operatic stage. His repertoire included a wide range of roles from Italian and French operas, including such iconic characters as Scarpia in Puccini's "Tosca," the title role in Verdi's "Rigoletto," and Count di Luna in "Il Trovatore."
