Australian Alternative Rock Band

The Church is an Australian alternative rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. The band's classic lineup consisted of Steve Kilbey on bass and lead vocals, Marty Willson-Piper on guitar and vocals, Peter Koppes on guitar, and Nick Ward on drums, with Ward being replaced by Richard Ploog after their debut album. The Church gained international fame with their 1988 album "Starfish," which featured the hit single "Under the Milky Way," a song that brought them commercial success and critical acclaim. Following the success of "Starfish," they released "Gold Afternoon Fix" in 1990 and "Priest = Aura" in 1992, both of which continued to develop their atmospheric and psychedelic sound. Over the years, The Church has been recognized for their intricate guitar work, evocative lyrics, and innovative music style that blends neo-psychedelia with new wave and dream pop elements. Despite numerous lineup changes, the band has remained active over the decades, releasing several albums and maintaining a dedicated fan base.
