Funk and Jazz Fusion Band

The Blackbyrds are an American rhythm and blues and jazz-funk fusion group, formed in Washington, D.C., in 1973. The band was originally comprised of students from Howard University's music department under the direction of trumpeter Donald Byrd, who was a prominent jazz artist and a faculty member at the university. The Blackbyrd's sound was a blend of jazz, funk, and R&B, which helped them gain significant popularity during the 1970s.
