Along with Emerson, Lake & Palmer, King Crimson and Genesis, Yes are undoubtedly one of the most important British progressive rock bands of all time. The band's original sound, when their debut album was released in 1969, was something unheard of. 'The Many Faces of Yes' reveals previously unknown facets of the band, with recordings of the entire group and its individual members, including true rarities and other treasures. On CD 1, "The BBC Sessions", the band is reunited with the original line-up (Jon Anderson - vocals, Peter Banks - guitar, Bill Bruford - drums, Chris Squire - bass and Tony Kaye - keyboards) with a performance for BBC Radio London. Here they played songs from their first album "Sweetness, Looking Around" and a fantastic version of the Beatles' "Every Little Thing". Also included is material from their second album "Time And A Word" (1970): "Then", "Everydays", "Sweet Dreams", "Astral Traveller" and a gutsy version of Richie Havens' "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed". These incredible BBC recordings also feature the song "Dear Father", which was included in a studio version on the "Yesterdays" compilation many years later. The session also includes the previously unreleased tracks "Somethin's Coming" and "For Everyone". CD 2 is entitled "Before and After Yes' Projects" and features songs written by various members of the band before or after their time in YES. It begins with the monumental "Catherine Howard" from keyboardist Rick Wakeman's unforgettable album "The Six Wives Of Henry VIII". This is followed by songs from the album "Flash" (a project put together by guitarist Peter Banks after he left YES in 1970). "The Last Eclipse" from Peter Banks' solo debut "Two Sides Of Peter Banks" completes this inspiring collection. CD 3 is called "Playin' Their Favourite Songs", which pretty much says it all. Members and former members of YES play songs by Pink Floyd, Genesis and even the AOR classic "More Than A Feeling" by Boston.
