A centenary 100th release from IRL, the label that brought Tinariwen, Terakaft and Malawi Mouse Boys to the UK and which remains one of the UK's most indispensable world music labels. IRL is celebrating in style and releasing a fantastic remix album. IRL's original recordings have been reworked into a variety of styles for the release including dubstep, drum and bass, dancehall and ambient. The original tracks were recorded by artists from all over the world and the remix team is also made up of international musicians from a variety of backgrounds. These songs tell the story of an often overlooked label that specialized in world music and changed the global music scene by supporting artists with many layers. Transglobal Underground's Nick 'Dubulah' Page oversaw a remix team that included Dub Colossus, Xáos and other IRL artists and fans to remake the tracks in tribute to the label. Nick said: "The songs are perfect the way they are, but I wanted to leave them for the next generation to see how they interpret them." This album is not just one of many compilations, a lot of effort went into putting together this collection of remixes. IRL, producers and artists like Justin Adams (currently working with Robert Plant) and Grammy-nominated Ian Brennan have brought attention and a worldwide audience to great bands over the past 15 years. The challenge was that some of the original multi-track master tapes were unfortunately unavailable, so part of the curation work involved creating samples for remixers Tinariwin, Justin Adams (Desert Road), Malawi Mouse Boys (x2), General Paolino, Acholi Machon. The rest were finished multi-track tracks.
