When Fabrice Franck Henri aka Guts entered the life of hip hop in the 80s, it wasn't the writers, B-boys or MCs, but the DJs behind the turntables that instantly fascinated him. Long before his first beat of his own or his success with Alliance Ethnik, the young Guts spent countless hours scratching, mixing and rewinding. Hundreds of DJ sets and record sales around the world also led to his successful "Beach Diggin'" series of rarities samplers. While the latter was known more for laid back and summery tracks from around the world, now on "Straight From The Decks" he presents no less than 17 extremely danceable hits in groovy afro/tropical waters that perfectly complement his current album "Philantropiques". Guts, who usually goes as wild as the crowd on the dance floor during his sets, has once again selected tracks and artists that are familiar to genre connoisseurs at best, but has provided us with detailed and loving notes.
