Lee Hazlewood started his own record label at an early age and began writing his own songs, which he recorded with guitarists Al Casey and Duane Eddy and singer Sanford Clarke. He was attracted to the booming West Coast of Los Angeles, where he wanted to get involved in the burgeoning music industry. He learned about sound engineering, built his own experimental recording studios and decided to become a musician and record producer himself. Hazlewood's 1963 debut album was only marginally successful. Yet he had already written many songs that were later recorded by other artists. Hits such as "These Boots Are Made For Walking" for Nancy Sinatra and duets between the two soon conquered the Billboard charts of the 1960s: "Some Velvet Morning" and Leiber and Wheeler's song "Jackson" made Hazlewood a sought-after songwriter and singer. After the album "Califia - The Songs Of Lee Hazlewood", another compilation with excellent songs from the pen of the great songwriter is coming out. This time the instrumentals feature Jack Nitzsche, Astronauts, Hal Blaine & The Young Cougars, Ventures and many more.
