Released as a double album in 1973, The Who's rock opera QUADROPHENIA is a conceptual work set in the Mod movement of the 1960s, when the band began their career in West London. The protagonist, Jimmy, is a disaffected young man who hates his parents and his humble job, but finds relief from the boredom of his Mod peers by popping pills and riding his scooter to weekend gigs by bands like The Who. The freedom he finds, however, proves illusory. The album's title is based on the personalities of four members of The Who, which are meant to represent the four sides of Jimmy. Townshend calls the album the best music he has ever written. Quadrophenia is a vinyl reissue of the soundtrack to the classic and influential 1979 film directed by Franc Roddam, based on The Who's 1973 rock opera that led to a self-proclaimed mod revival in the UK. The double vinyl features a riveting performance by Phil Daniels as the disaffected mod Jimmy. The film, set in 1965, also stars Leslie Ash, Ray Winstone and Sting. It is set against the backdrop of the struggles of mods and rockers at the time. The film features 13 songs by The Who, including Love Reign O'er Me and Bell Boy, as well as others - some of which have been re-recorded and remixed exclusively for the soundtrack. It also includes three tracks that were not on the original 1973 album - Get Out And Stay Out, Four Faces, Joker James and classic tracks from the 60s era by James Brown, Booker T & The MGs, The Ronettes and more.
