Since the publication of Julian Cope's literary guide, The Great Cosmic Music (1995), the experimental sounds that emerged in the late 1960s and 1970s alternative music scene between electro, prog rock and ambient on the one hand and counterculture and drug experiments on the other have experienced one revival after another. In the plethora of compilations that are often compiled according to superficial criteria, the knowledgeable and lovingly edited Soul Jazz samplers stand out by far. It is therefore very welcome that "Deutsche Elektronische Musik. Experimental German Rock And Electronic Music 1972-83" is being reissued after 2010. The Guardian wrote about this edition when it was first published: "The definitive guide to the world's most remarkable music." The sought-after but long out-of-print edition featuring Cluster, Can, Faust, Popol Vuh, Neu!, Amon Düül, Harmonia, La Düsseldorf, Tangerine Dream, Kollectiv and Ibliss was the prelude to a mini-series that has since grown to three sets. While the remastered reissue is released digitally as a double CD with a large 36-page booklet, the heavy vinyl edition is distributed on two double LPs in a gatefold sleeve.
