Chas Chandler, formerly of The Animals and Entrepreneurs, brought Hendrix to the UK and introduced him to drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding. Recording of "Are You Experienced" began in October 1966 and produced a series of singles that served as the appetizer for the world-famous guitarist's first album. During the recording sessions, the foundations were laid for the future working relationship between sound engineer Eddie Kramer and Hendrix. The band's debut album, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, was originally released in mono and only on later releases as "enhanced stereo". The cover photo for the UK version was taken by Bruce Flemming.
