The Pet Shop Boys have announced the release of a DVD and 2CD of Discovery: Live in Rio 1994, which was filmed at the end of their 1994 tour of Singapore, Australia and Latin America. This classic concert, which was previously only available on VHS, can now be enjoyed by fans for the first time on DVD and heard on CD. The concert was filmed by Brazilian filmmaker Roberto Berliner in December 1994 with a local television crew when the PSB performed to an enthusiastic audience on their first visit to Brazil. The setlist includes classic hits from the duo such as "West End Girls", "Suburbia", "Being Boring", "Go West", "Rent" and "Always on My Mind", as well as a surprising fusion of PSB songs with current songs of the time, including "One in a Million"/"Mr Vain" and "Left to My Own Devices"/"Rhythm of the Night". Another highlight of the spectacular evening is a cover of Blur's "Girls and Boys". The DVD and CD document a show that is very different from the two groundbreaking tours that preceded it in 1989 and 1991. After the release of "Very" and "Disco 2," the Pet Shop Boys decided to focus most of their two-hour set on uplifting songs with a party vibe. The duo were inspired by visits to New York's underground house club The Sound Factory Bar. On the "Discovery" tour, the Pet Shop Boys performed with four dancers, backing vocalist Katie Kissoon and two Latin percussionists, allowing for a spontaneity that had never been seen before. Chris Lowe said at the time: "We're more free-spirited on this tour. We're throwing boisterous parties. It's not a completely choreographed and rehearsed show. You could say the basic approach is a bit more rock'n'roll. You can get carried away (laughs). And get naked." Neil Tennant added: "In the past there's always been a certain distance between us and the audience because of stage conventions. Now we're completely ourselves on stage." The DVD and CD include a new booklet with previously unreleased photos from the tour, an interview with Chris Heath from the rehearsal period of the tour and an exclusive Neil Tennant diary.
