The Graduate (Original Sound Track Recording) is the soundtrack to the 1967 Grammy Award-winning film of the same name starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. The album was released in 1968 by Simon and Garfunkel. The Graduate was the duo's fifth studio album and their first album of original material in two years. The album was produced by Simon and Art Garfunkel and engineered by Roy Halee. The album's title track, "The Graduate", was written by Paul Simon for the film's soundtrack. The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, but lost to "Talk to the Animals" from the film Doctor Dolittle. The album's second single, "Mrs. Robinson", was also written for the film and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The Graduate was commercially and critically successful. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the RIAA. The album was praised by music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called it "a brilliant, jazzy and literary album" and "one of the duo's best records". The Graduate
