Metallica is an album released on August 12, 1991 by the American heavy metal band Metallica. It is the band's third studio album and the first to feature bassist Jason Newsted. The album was recorded over three months at One on One recording studios in Los Angeles with producer Bob Rock. Metallica is often considered one of the best heavy metal albums of all time. The album has been certified platinum 16 times by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), making it one of the best-selling albums in the United States. The album spawned five singles: "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters", "Wherever I May Roam" and "Sad but True".
