Beethoven's piano sonatas belong to the standard piano repertoire. The three sonatas "Moonlight Sonata", "Appassionata" and "Pathétique" are legendary and still the most popular. We first encounter it in a superb recording by pianist Peter Rössel. "When I was asked by the production company Eterna to record these three famous Beethoven sonatas in the late 1970s, I had to think about it for a while before I accepted the offer. After all, I had to compete with a record of exactly the same pieces that had already been published in the GDR. The performer was Wilhelm Kempff, so the bar was quite high for a young pianist. Nevertheless, the decision was made and I accepted the challenge. Without wishing to be immodest, I can say that I was quite satisfied with the result and still am to this day. The fact that the recording is now once again reaching music lovers on CD and vinyl fills me with great joy." (Peter Rösel, Dresden 2016)
