The three G's and E flat form probably the most famous melodic phrase in classical music. These notes are the opening motif of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, a work that has enjoyed continued popularity since its premiere in 1808. This CD, aptly titled "Ta Ta Taaa", presents various interpretations with Otto Klemperer, Michael Gielen, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and Adam Fischer, offering listeners interesting and revealing comparisons from the past and present. The complete Symphony No. 5 is available from 2019 with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra under Robert Trevino. The version of the first movement for solo piano in a brilliant arrangement by Liszt is played by pianist Konstantin Scherbakov.
