The album Living Things debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 223,000 copies in its first week. It is the band's first album to reach number one on the chart in the United States. The album received a platinum record from the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping one million copies in the United States. As of July 2017, the album has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album has received generally mixed reviews from music critics. Some praised the album for returning to the band's nu-metal roots, while others criticized it for its lack of innovation. Living Things was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, but lost to Muse's The 2nd Law.
