"Beat" was released in June 1982, just eight months after the band's debut album "Discipline" from the 1980s. Crimson's intricate polyrhythmic '80s musical textures, songwriting power and studio interplay helped the band reach the top of the charts in the U.S. and England. It was perhaps the closest a band like King Crimson could get to mainstream rock. As with the previous albums in the King Crimson CD/DVD-A series, the CD features a new stereo mix by Robert Fripp and Steven Wilson, and the DVD-A includes a 5.1 mix of the album by Steven Wilson, a high-resolution stereo version of both the old and new mixes. In addition, the original album is included as a rough mix along with additional soundtracks, video footage of two songs from the Alabamahallen concert in Germany, and the original music video for "Heartbeat".
