Joe Bonamassa honors two role models at "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" Joe Bonamassa paid tribute to two blues legends, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, at the "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" concert. The exclusive concert was played and recorded at the spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Labor Day weekend 2014. 9,000 fans celebrated "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" with Joe Bonamassa. It was a two-and-a-half-hour concert where guitarist Bonamassa brought historic blues patterns to life with exuberant horn amplification. The Blu-ray and DVD also include about 90 minutes of behind-the-scenes documentation, a photo gallery, historical film documentaries about Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, and a film about Bonamassa's trip to the Mississippi Delta with producer Kevin Shirley. "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" is also the beginning of a series of concerts Joe Bonamassa plans to honor his idols. He's playing with a different band than usual and expanding his blues palette with new material. Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters were major figures in Chicago blues. Howlin' Wolf was characterized by his deep, raspy voice. Muddy Waters is even considered the father of the modern Chicago blues, which subsequently sparked the rise of the British blues. The circle comes full circle here, as British blues is a formative component of Bonamassa's work. At the "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" concert, Joe Bonamassa and his musicians always played a 30-minute set of the work of Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters and a half-hour of his own repertoire. The band for this event consisted of Anton Fig (drums), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond organ), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, horn arrangements), Ron Dziubla (sax), Nick Lane (trombone), Mike Henderson (harmonica) and Kirk Fletcher (guitar). Joe Bonamassa himself was impressed by the "Muddy Wolf" concert. He says it was the concert of his life and the largest audience he has ever played in front of. The live album and video documentation of the event shows him playing the music he has always loved and he loved it even more there. If you want to know how Joe Bonamassa's blues heart beats, don't miss "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks". Review "It's the fact that the richly grooving renditions of classics like 'I Can't Be Satisfied' and 'Spoonful' don't put on a blues-rock costume or settle for a simple retro approach that makes this album so charming, giving the lie to anyone who thinks the blues is a boring affair or that Bonamassa is a pure rock musician."
