The 1956 set, featuring Victoria de los Angeles and Jussi Björling in fine form, ranks alongside Callas's De Sabato's Tosca (Naxos 8.110256-57) as one of the finest studio recordings of the opera ever made. On its first UK release, a reviewer for The Gramophone remarked that 'Beecham's ability to bring music to life is indescribable....one falls headlong in love with opera all over again'."
