Billboard announced that the single "Strangers In The Night" reached number one not only in the US and UK, but also in Australia and Argentina, as well as Austria, Belgium, Ireland and France. "And it's on the rise in other countries," said Austin. "For us, it means a worldwide resurgence of Sinatra." The song was written by popular German bandleader Bert Kaempfert, with English lyrics by Charles Singleton and Eddie Snyder. Kaempfert first recorded the tune as the instrumental "Beddy Bye," which was part of the soundtrack to the 1966 adventure comedy "A Man Could Get Killed" starring James Garner and Melina Mercouri. The Greek actress and singer was offered the song, but thought it should be sung by a man. Her selfless decision was a win for the world. Frank's album "Strangers In The Night" reached gold status in the US and "Sinatra At The Sands", recorded in a Las Vegas hotel with Count Basie, came close to that status. "One of the reasons this product sold so well," the Billboard article said, "is people's inability to see Sinatra live. His major film commitments have kept his nightclub activities to a minimum, and Austin sees the LP as filling that gap for fans who couldn't see him live." Indeed, Reprise was so enthusiastic about what Ostin called the "exciting repertoire approach" of the live album format that, as Billboard reported, it has released two live albums of Sinatra's "Rat Pack" Sammy Davis Jr. "Strangers In The Night" had just been in the U.K. chart for 20 weeks at the time of the article, and the follow-up single "Summer Wind" was among the top sellers on both sides of the Atlantic. "Strangers" won two Grammy Awards, for Record of the Year and Pop Male Vocal Performance of the Year.
