They were the most successful pop group of the late 1950s and early 1960s and perhaps the prototype of the modern pop duo: The Everly Brothers. When they signed a ten-year deal with Warner Bros. in 1959, it was one of the biggest contracts in music history. Born in 1937 and 1939, respectively, and heavily influenced by country and rock 'n' roll, Don and Phil Everly became one of the most successful and still respected singing duos of all time. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and have also been inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame since 2001. The Everly Brothers are responsible for some of the biggest pop hits of all time, including "Bye Bye Love", "Wake Up Little Susie", "Love Hurts" and "Cathy's Clown". They had countless fans in the US and Europe, and many fellow musicians have paid tribute to their art and songs. Keith Richards called Don Everly one of the "best rhythm guitarists" and Paul Simon collaborated with them on his iconic album "Graceland" (1986). The brothers had since parted ways in 1973, but reunited in 1983 for a triumphant reunion concert at London's Royal Albert Hall, now one of the classics of live concerts. Sadly, Phil Everly died a few weeks ago, on 3 January 2014, aged 74. It's a sad but fitting occasion to commemorate the work and songs of Don and Phil with a new retrospective celebrating their illustrious careers. "The Very Best Of The Everly Brothers" includes all of the duo's big and important hits like "Walk Right Now," "Love Hurts" and "Cathy's Clown," as well as some rare gems like "Stick With You Baby," which Robert Plant and Alisson Krauss interpreted on the album "Raising Sand" and made into another hit.
