The fifth album, which "Boss" released in October 1980, was the first album to reach number one on the US Billboard 200 album chart. With "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection" being the first box set to bring this album back to prominence. A total of four CDs and three DVDs or two Blu-ray discs and a hardcover book offer an in-depth look at the making of the album, which contains 52 songs, many of which have never been released before, as well as plenty of rare video footage. CD overview: four CDs include the 1980 double album "The River" and the first version of the album Springsteen wrote in 1979 as a direct follow-up to "Darkness On The Edge Of Town". However, the ten tracks were never released because, according to Springsteen, they lacked conceptual coherence. An intensive songwriting phase followed, followed by the "real" album a year later. Seven of the ten songs from The River made it onto the later double album, but some were rearranged or rewritten. The collection contains a total of 22 tracks, eleven of which have now been released for the first time. They were mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig. The other eleven tracks come from the "Tracks" box set and the "Essentials" compilation and are now collected on CD for the first time.
