The Times They Are A-Changin' is Dylan's first album composed entirely of original songs. It is a celebratory, often somber album that depicts the restless and unsettling nature of the times. In many ways it is the epitome of early Dylan, with traditional protest songs such as the title track following Freewheelin''s "Blowin' In The Wind", along with other powerful and poignant songs about social injustice ("Only a Pawn in Their Game", The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll and With God On Our Side.) However, amongst the current gloomy atmosphere, there are also beautiful songs such as "Boots of Spanish Leather" and "One Too Many Mornings". It's an album that reflects an uncertain time and is a turning point in his career; its follow-up, "Another Side," a year later, will show a much lighter and more humorous Dylan. It contains some of the most important Dylan songs ever recorded and is an essential part of any music fan's collection.
