With this album, the band celebrated their landmark debut 50 years ago. It was also the band's most important LP around singer Janis Joplin and is still considered one of the milestones of the '68 generation. The album Cheap Thrills was released on August 12, 1968 and instantly became a number one album. A reworked version is now available for the first time under the originally planned title Sex, Dope & Cheap Thrills, which was rejected at the time as too bold. Sex, Dope & Cheap Thrills presents a new collection of 30 must-have rarities from the band. It includes 29 studio recordings (25 of which were previously completely unreleased) from the legendary recording sessions for this album in 1968. Grace Slick, lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, and David Getz, drummer for Big Brother & The Holding Company, contributed liner notes. There, Slick writes how she experienced the songs at the time, "Then I heard that voice - Big God! - every feeling it expressed was like detonation.
