Usually, reunions are hopeless attempts to revive a rotting corpse that is better left lying in the ground... but sometimes bands come back and present themselves more energetic and stronger than ever! Fortunately, in the case of legendary Dutch death metallers ASPHYX, this is the other nail in the coffin! With their eagerly awaited new album "Death...The Brutal Way", the quartet now serves up a prime example of the indestructible punch of true death metal! Formed in 1987 under the morbid influence of genre forefathers such as Venom, Hellhammer / Celtic Frost, Slaughter and Death, the ASPHYX name has spread like the black plague thanks to famous demos in the cassette trading scene and the growing underground metal community. After a tumultuous ending in 2000, the reemergence of ASPHYX was a very straightforward process and began with a great headlining performance at Party. San Festival 2007! Several thousand fans frenetically celebrated the return of the band with the current line-up consisting of iconic frontman Martin van Drunen (vocals), Wannes Gubbels (bass/vocals), Paul Baayens (guitar, also worked in Thanatos) and Bob Bagchus (drums). With this ideal line-up and a spectacular best of set, ASPHYX motivated their unwavering fans, who seem to have been joined by many younger metalheads in recent years, to go on a rampage!Inspired by this perfect start, ASPHYX have played Arnhem Metal Meeting (NL), Hole In The Sky Festival (NOR), Rock Hard Festival (D) and already have many shows confirmed for 2009 including Maryland Deathfest (US), Deathfeast (D), With Full Force Festival (D) and many more. As the first musical sign of life, the "new" ASPHYX released a 7" on the German underground label Iron Pegasus, which sold out in record time, and now the new album "Death...The Brutal Way" is finally ready for release. The new opus was recorded with longtime ASPHYX sound engineer Frank Klein Douwel at Sonic Assault studio, followed by mixing and mastering by another death metal legend - Dan Swanö (Bloodbath, Edge Of Sanity etc.). The latter has already provided the right sound for the debut album of Hail Of Bullets, the second band of vocalist Martin van Drunen and guitarist Paul Baayens. From the opening banger "Scorbutics" to the driving title track to the ominous doom monster "Asphyx II (They Died As They Marched)", from the mighty "Railway Mortar" to the monumental death metal anthem "Cape Horn", one thing is clear beyond any doubt: ASPHYX have managed to bring their classic trademarks into 2009 and every fan will instantly adore the album as a true successor to 1992's superpiece "The Last One On Earth"!The limited edition of the new album includes as a bonus a DVD with the aforementioned fantastic show Party.
